You will be completing a Signature Assignment in Week 3. The Week 3 Lab (the Signature Assignment) aligns with Outcomes C, D, and E. The Lab provides an existing business (Sample) database. SQL DML will be used to manage the database and extract data to answer business questions. The results will be reported and analyzed with a description provided. These activities are common activities that take place in businesses on a daily basis.

These common activities can be broken down into steps:

Lab Overview

In this Lab, you will create an entity relationship diagram (ERD) for a portion of a database that a veterinary clinic might use to keep track of clients, veterinarians, patients, appointments, and procedures.

The major entities involved in this database design are listed below.

Clients (humans)
Patients (animals)
Veterinarians
Appointments
Procedures (veterinary procedures, such as tests or treatments performed during appointments)

Below are the business rules that apply to these entities.

Each Client owns zero or many Patients; each Patient is owned by exactly one Client.
Each Patient can have zero or many Appointments; each Appointment is for exactly one Patient.
Each Appointment is with exactly one Veterinarian; each Veterinarian can have zero or many Appointments.
Each Procedure can be performed during zero or many Appointments; each Appointment can include the performance of zero or many Procedures.

Deliverables

Tutorial

The following tutorial will demonstrate, in general, how to use Microsoft Visio 2016 to create an entity relationship diagram (ERD). IMPORTANT: The ERD created in the video is NOT the ERD you will create in this lab. Please watch the video to gain an understanding of how to work in Visio, but follow the written steps below to create the correct deliverable for this Lab activity, based on the Scenario/Summary given at the beginning of this page.

Lab Steps

STEP 1: Launch Visio and Create a Diagram

Launch Microsoft Visio.
Create a new Crow’s Foot Database Notation diagram.
Save the diagram using the file name LabWeek2xxx.vsd (where xxx = your initials).

STEP 2: Create a Conceptual Data Model Diagram

Rename the first page of the diagram to Conceptual-ERD.
Use the Rectangle drawing tool to create and label a rectangle for each entity identified in the Scenario/Summary.
Add relationship lines connecting the entities as described in the business rules provided in the Scenario/Summary. Label each relationship line with a verb phrase describing the relationship.
Set the cardinality symbols on the ends of each relationship line to correctly denote the cardinality of each relationship, as given in the business rules.
Save your changes to the file.

STEP 3: Create a Logical Data Model Diagram

Insert a new page into the diagram and name it Logical-ERD.
Add Entity shapes to the page for each entity shown in the conceptual data model. Label each Entity shape with the corresponding entity name.
As you did for the conceptual data model, add relationship lines connecting the entities as described in the business rules provided in the Scenario/Summary. Label each relationship line using the same verb phrases as you used in the conceptual data model.
Set the cardinality symbols on the ends of each relationship line as you did in the conceptual data model.
Save your changes to the file.

STEP 4: Resolve the Many-to-Many Relationship

Remove the relationship line indicating a many-to-many relationship from the logical data model.
Add an Entity shape for an associative entity to resolve the many-to-many relationship. Label the associative entity with a meaningful descriptive name.
Add relationship lines connecting the associative entity to each of the entities involved in the original many-to-many relationship. Label each relationship line with a descriptive verb phrase.
Set the cardinality symbols on the ends of each relationship line appropriately.
Save your changes to the file.

STEP 5: Add Attributes, Data Types, Keys, and Normalization

Add appropriate attributes for each entity on the logical data model. To add data types, right-click the entity shape while pointing to the entity outline. Select the “Show Attributes” option. Give each attribute a meaningful name. Follow a consistent naming convention for all attributes. You should have a minimum of three attributes for each entity (except possibly the associative entity).
Designate an appropriate primary key for each entity.
Designate appropriate foreign keys to implement all the relationships.
Review your completed diagram and ensure it is in at least third normal form (3NF).
Save your changes to the file.

STEP 6: Discussion of the Process

Write professional report to present your recommended database design and explain to your CEO why you are recommending this design.

Step 7: Submit Work

Submit your work to Canvas. There should be one MS Word file with Step 6 Report and Screen Prints, OR One MS Word Document with Discussion and one MS Visio file with drawings.

Lab Overview

Adventure Works Cycles is a fictional bicycle manufacturing company headquartered in Bothell, WA, that sells metal and composite bicycles to distributors in North America, Europe, and Asia. Adventure Works also sells bicycles directly to consumers via the company’s website.

Adventure Works executives are formulating a strategic plan to expand the company’s market share and are seeking information to help them. As a business analyst for Adventure Works, you will write SQL queries to retrieve the requested data from the corporate database, analyze the information, and make recommendations to management.

Deliverables

After completing the steps below, submit a single Microsoft Word file named LabWeek3xxx.docx (where xxx = your initials). This file will contain screenshots for five queries, showing the SQL code and results. After each screen shot, you should include at least a paragraph of text with your analysis and recommendations to management based on the results of the query.

The following tutorials will demonstrate, in general, how to use Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, how to connect to the Adventure Works database, and how to write and execute queries similar to those in this Lab assignment. IMPORTANT: The queries created in the video are NOT the exact queries you will create in this lab. Please watch the videos to gain an understanding of how to work with SQL, but follow the written steps below to create the correct deliverable for this Lab activity, based on the Scenario/Summary and Deliverables sections at the beginning of this page.

Lab Steps

STEP 1: Launch SQL Server Management Studio and Connect to the Database

Log in to the Citrix Lab environment (this Lab MUST be performed in Citrix to access the Adventure Works database). See the Course Resources for information on how to access the Citrix Lab environment.
If necessary, locate the SQL2016 Server Management Studio app in the Citrix All Apps menu and click to add it to your Citrix menu screen.
Click the SQL2016 Server Management Studio icon to launch the application.
In SQL Server Management Studio, connect to the Database Engine d1w-sqlp00am01\BIAM530.
Click to place your cursor in the blank query pane on the right.
In the Available Databases list, change the selected database from master to AdventureWorks2016. This is the operational database for Adventure Works Cycles that contains the data you will need for your analysis.

Be sure the right database is selected!

Do not select the similarly-named database with the letters “DW” in the name. This is the data warehouse for Adventure Works; it is organized differently and will not work for the queries in this Lab. You will learn to work with data warehouses in a future week.

If when executing a query, you receive an error message indicating that a table name or column name is not recognized, and you are sure you spelled the table or column name correctly, double-check that the correct database is selected. Executing a query against the wrong database is a common source of errors.

STEP 2: Analyze Sales by Territory

Management has asked you to analyze current-year and prior-sales for each geographic territory. Currently, for Adventure Works, in most cases, an entire country is a single territory. However, the United States is currently divided into multiple territories. You will create a query to display the sales for each territory and analyze the results.

In the Object Explorer list, expand the entry for the Sales.SalesTerritory table and review the columns in this table. You will use these in constructing your query.
In the blank query pane on the right, enter a SQL SELECT command that displays the following columns from the Sales.SalesTerritory table: TerritoryID, Name, CountryRegionCode, SalesYTD, and SalesLastYear. Include a clause that sorts the output in descending order by SalesYTD, so that the territory with the highest year-to-date sales will be displayed first.
Execute the query and review the results.

Because the Adventure Works database does not have a sales table with one row per country, you will use the Sales.SalesTerritory table again, grouping and summarizing the sales data for all rows with the same country.

Open a new blank query pane.
Enter a SQL SELECT command that displays the following from the Sales.SalesTerritory table: CountryRegionCode, sum of SalesYTD, and sum of SalesLastYear. Use aggregate functions for the sums. You will continue to use the Sales.SalesTerritory table for this query.

Open a new blank query pane.
Enter a SQL SELECT command that displays the following from the Sales.SalesTerritory table: TerritoryID, Name, SalesYTD, SalesLastYear, and a formula that calculates the percent change in sales. The formula for percent change should divide the difference between SalesYTD and SalesLastYear by SalesLastYear and multiply by 100. You will create a query to display the total sales (dollars) for each product with sales greater than $2 million and analyze the results. You will use the Sales.SalesOrderDetail table for this analysis. Because each row in this table represents a single order line item, you will group and summarize all order lines for the same product ID to get total sales per product.

Open a new blank query pane.
Enter a SQL SELECT command that displays the following from the Sales.SalesOrderDetails table: ProductID and sum of LineTotal. Use an aggregate function for the sum. Assign an appropriate column heading such as TotalSales to the sum. Include a clause that will group results based on ProductID. Include a clause that will limit the displayed results to those having a sum of LineTotal greater than $2 million. Include a clause that will sort the results in descending order by the sum or LineTotal, so the product with the highest sales will be displayed first.NOTE: In SQL, numeric values should be entered using only digits and (if necessary) the decimal point. Because only product IDs and not product names are stored in the Sales.SalesOrderDetail table, you will need to include another table, Production.Product, in your query to include the names.

Select and copy the text of your SQL command for best-selling products written in the previous step.
Open a new blank query pane and paste the best-selling products SQL command into this pane. Execute the query to make sure it still works.
Modify the FROM clause of the query to join the Sales.SalesOrderDetail table to the Production.Product table, using the ProductID column in both tables for the join.

Lab Overview

Hadoop is a computing framework that provides the ability to store and analyze very large data sets using a cluster of many inexpensive computers. The objective of this lab is to familiarize you with the capabilities of the Hadoop platform, including how data files are transferred to Hadoop in preparation for analysis.

In this lab, you will view a video about a large-scale data analysis project done as part of the “Big Data for Social Good Challenge” sponsored by IBM and Hadoop. Because of the large volume of data involved, Hadoop was used to perform each analysis. You will answer a series of questions about how the analysis was performed, what could have been done differently, and other applications for this analytical technique. You will then create your own account on a cloud-based Hadoop system and practice performing some basic operations with Hadoop.

Step 2: Create Account on Cognitive Class Labs Cloud

Click Sign Up to create a new account. Enter your name, e-mail address, and a password you create (twice), then click Sign Up. Record the password for signing into the account later.
You will receive an email with a confirmation link. This may take up to 30 minutes. Click the link to confirm your email address and activate your account.
After clicking the link in the confirmation email, you will be taken to a login page. Log in using your email address and the password you created earlier. The first time you log in, a terms of service agreement will be displayed. Review this agreement and, if you accept, select the “I accept” option at the bottom and click Next.
Click the Hadoop Sandbox link.
Review the license agreement for the software and, if you accept, select the “I accept” option and click Submit. (You may need to do this for multiple license pages).
After accepting the license agreement(s), you should see the Hadoop Sandbox page.

Step 3: Get Connection Details and View Ambari Console

WAIT AT LEAST 30 MINUTES after creating your account before attempting to access the Ambari Console. It may take this long for your access to be fully enabled.
Select Systems.
Scroll to the bottom of the page under Connection Details. Here you will find a username and server host name for connecting to your cloud-based Hadoop cluster. Copy and paste the username and server host name into your LabWeek5xxx.docx Word document under the heading “Hadoop Connection Details”.
Under the Ambari Console section (just above Connection Details), click Launch and sign in using the username given under Connection Details (NOT your full email address) and the password you created earlier for your Cognitive Class Labs Cloud account.
You should now see the Ambari Console which shows the status of the Hadoop cluster you are connected to. Some sections may show “No Data Available”; this is normal depending on what monitoring services are running on the console. Notice that you can obtain additional details for some sections by hovering your cursor over the section.
Capture a screen shot of the Ambari Console and paste it into your Word document. In the Word document below the Ambari Console, answer the following questions based on what you see on the Ambari Console:
- What percentage of disk space on the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) is being used? How many gigabytes (GB) or terabytes (TB) does this represent? (Hint: Hover over the HDFS Disk Usage section and add the values for DFS Used and non-DFS Used.)
- How many DataNodes are in the cluster? (Hint: Look in the HDFS Links section.)
- How long has the cluster been running since the last restart? (Hint: Look in the NameNode Uptime section.)

Step 4: Use Basic HDFS Commands

In a separate browser tab or window, go to the DeVry University Citrix server at https://lab.devry.edu (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. and log in with your D-number and DeVry University password.
Go to Apps, open a web browser in Citrix (Chrome or Firefox is recommended), and in this Citrix browser go to https://www.consumerfinance.gov/data-research/consumer-complaints/ (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. . Select the View Complaint Data option, use the filtering tools to select a subset of a few thousand complaints, and export the results as a CSV file. Save the exported complaint file in the Downloads folder on the Citrix server (not on your local computer). Close the Citrix browser window.
Go to Apps and use the search box at the upper right to locate the Cygwin 1_7_35 application. Click the icon to launch the application. (If desired, you can click the Details link and add the app to your Favorites page to make it easier to find in the future.) Cygwin is a Linux-like command-line environment containing tools we will use to communicate with our Hadoop cluster.
Enter the following commands at the $ prompt in Cygwin:

Lab Overview

As you may recall from an earlier Lab activity, Adventure Works Cycles is a fictional bicycle manufacturing company headquartered in Bothell, WA, that sells metal and composite bicycles to distributors in North America, Europe, and Asia. Adventure Works also sells bicycles directly to consumers via the company’s website.

Adventure Works uses a data warehouse to provide decision support services to executives. In this Lab activity, to better understand the structure of a data warehouse, you will first create a simple example of a star schema in your individual data warehouse area. You will use SQL commands to transfer data from the Adventure Works data warehouse into your data warehouse. Finally, you will use your simplified data warehouse to generate a business intelligence report on sales, analyze the data shown on the report, and make recommendations to management.

Deliverables

After completing the steps below, submit a single Microsoft Word file named LabWeek6.xxx.docx (where xxx = your initials). This file will contain screen shots for your queries to create and populate your data warehouse, a screen shot of your completed sales report, and your analysis and recommendations to management based on the sales report.

Step 1: Launch SQL Server Management Studio and Connect to the Database

Log in to the Citrix Lab environment (this Lab MUST be performed in Citrix to access the Adventure Works database). See Course Resources for information on how to access the Citrix Lab environment.
If necessary, locate the SQL Server Management Studio 2016 app in the Citrix All Apps menu and click to add it to your Citrix menu screen.
Click the SQL2016 Server Management Studio icon to launch the application.
In SQL Server Management Studio, connect to the Database Engine d1w-sqlp00am01\BIAM530.
Click to place your cursor in the blank query pane on the right.
In the Available Databases list, change the selected database from master to AdventureWorksDW2016. This is the data warehouse for Adventure Works Cycles.

Be sure the right database is selected!

In a previous Lab, we used the Adventure Works operational database. In this Lab activity, we will begin by examining the Adventure Works data warehouse, so this time, be sure you do select the database with the letters “DW” in the name.

Step 2: Create Dimension and Fact Tables for a Data Warehouse

Expand the list of tables for the AdventureWorksDW2016 database, right-click on the DimProduct table, and select Script Tables as > CREATE To > New Query Editor Window. This will generate a SQL script in a query window that can be used to create the DimProduct table. In this script, delete the USE command at the beginning and also delete all the ALTER TABLE commands at the end
Generate a similar script for creating the DimCustomer table. As before, delete the USE command at the beginning of the script and all the ALTER TABLE commands at the end.
Generate a similar script for creating the FactInternetSales table. As before, delete the USE command at the beginning of the script. At the end of the script, delete all the ALTER TABLE commands except the ones that refer to the DimProduct and DimCustomer tables; leave those commands unchanged.
Select the query window containing the script to create the DimProduct table. In the Available Databases list, change the selected database from AdventureWorksDW2016 to your individual data warehouse database. This is named Dnnnnnnnn530mmmyyDW, where Dnnnnnnnn = your DeVry student ID number and mmmyy = the month and year for the session you are taking this course. Note that the month is the beginning month for the session, not necessarily the month in which you are doing this Lab activity. For example, for the May 2018 session, you would select Dnnnnnnnn530MAY18DW, even if you are doing this Lab in June 2018. Be sure to select the database ending in DW (data warehouse) and not DB. Execute the script to create a copy of the DimProduct table in your individual data warehouse. Capture a screen shot showing the script and the result, which should be a message indicating the commands completed successfully. Paste this screen shot into a Microsoft Word document named LabWeek6xxx.docx (where xxx = your initials).
Select the query window containing the script to create the DimCustomer table. Again, change the selected database from AdventureWorksDW2016 to your individual data warehouse database. Execute the script to create your copy of the DimCustomer table. Capture a screen shot showing the script and the successful result and paste this screen shot into your Word document.
Select the query window containing the script to create the FactInternetSales table. Again, change the selected database from AdventureWorksDW2016 to your individual data warehouse database. Expand the list of tables under your individual data warehouse database and verify that the DimCustomer, DimProduct, and FactInternetSales are listed.

Step 3: Populate the Data Warehouse

Right-click on the DimProduct table in your individual data warehouse and select Script Table as > INSERT to > New Query Editor Window. This will generate a SQL script that can be used to insert data into the table.
At the beginning of the script, add the following command to allow inserting data into the table’s primary key:SET IDENTITY_INSERT DimProduct ONGO
Immediately after the line beginning INSERT INTO . . . , add the primary key to the list of fields to be inserted by changing the line([ProductAlternateKey]to(ProductKey, [ProductAlternateKey]
Find the line beginning VALUES. Delete this line and all subsequent lines up to (but not including) the line containing the GO command. Instead, enter the following to copy data from the existing DimProduct table in the Adventure Works data warehouse and insert it into your DimProduct table:
SELECT * FROM AdventureWorksDW2016.dbo.DimProduct
Execute the modified script to populate your DimProduct table. You should see a message indicating that the query executed successfully and showing the number of rows that were affected. Capture a screen shot showing the script and the number of rows affected and paste this screen shot into your Word document.
Follow a similar procedure to create, modify, and execute a script to copy data from the DimCustomer table in the Adventure Works data warehouse to your DimCustomer table. Capture a screen shot showing the script and the number of rows affected and paste this screen shot into your Word document.
Follow a similar procedure to create, modify, and execute a script to copy data from the FactInternetSales table in the Adventure Works data warehouse to your FactInternetSales table. For this table, it is not necessary to turn on IDENTITY_INSERT or add the primary key to the field list, since this table does not use an automatically generated primary key. Capture a screen shot showing the script and the number of rows affected and paste this screen shot into your Word document.

STEP 4: Launch SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio and Create a Report Server Project

Log into the Citrix Lab environment if you are not already logged in.
If necessary, locate the SQL Server Data Tools 2015 application and add it to your Citrix menu screen.
Click the Data Tools icon to launch the application.
Create a new Business Intelligence Project using the Report Server Project Wizard template. Name the project AdventureWorks DW Sales Report.

STEP 5: Create a Sales Report

Click past the Welcome page of the report wizard.
On the Select the Data Source page of the report wizard, create a new Microsoft SQL Server data source named AdventureWorksDW. Edit the data source properties to select your individual data warehouse as the data source. Recall that your individual data warehouse is named Dnnnnnnnn530mmmyyDW, where Dnnnnnnnn = your DeVry Student ID number and mmmyy = the month and year of the session.
On the Design the Query page of the report wizard, use the Query Builder to create a query that includes all three tables (DimProduct, DimCustomer, and FactInternetSales). Select the ModelName field from the DimProduct table, the Gender field from the DimCustomer table, and the SalesAmount field from the FactInternetSales table.
On the Report Type page of the report wizard, select Matrix.
On the Design the Matrix page of the report wizard, use Gender as the columns, ModelName as the rows, and SalesAmount as the details.
